LOS ALTOS, CA — Oct. 8, 2015 — SilRay, a full-service commercial solar energy solutions provider, today announced that it has begun a second 400 kW solar installation project at the Hayward-based Sugar Bowl Bakery’s Corsair building, as it simultaneously celebrates the one-year anniversary of its completion of the bakery’s first 480 kW installation. The bakery, which has tripled production in the past year, is one of the largest family and minority owned bakeries operating in the United States, and has offset over 50 percent of its energy usage since going solar.

SilRay installed a 1,600 panel photovoltaic system on the roof of Sugar Bowl Bakery’s Sabre building last summer, which is to-date the largest commercial solar installation on a single building in Hayward. The solar panels provide the bakery with the capacity to produce over 700,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year and account for over 50 percent of the facility’s electric usage.

SilRay additionally installed several charging stations for electric vehicles in the Sugar Bowl parking lot for employees looking for environmentally conscious commuting options. Since then, more employees have bought electric vehicles, and others have gone on to install solar systems at their residences.

“Transitioning to solar has had a multi-tiered impact on our company,” said Andrew Ly, CEO of Sugar Bowl Bakery. “As we continue to experience tremendous growth, the addition of solar systems is not only a cost-effective route for energy savings, allowing us to re-invest in the business, it also has helped us shape a green culture where we are proud to come to work every day, knowing that we are using renewable energy for a cleaner and safer environment.”

“SilRay worked closely with Sugar Bowl Bakery to provide a customized solar solution to fit the business’s needs,” said April Zhong, CEO of SilRay. “Our extensive solar installation has successfully positioned the bakery to produce over half of their energy from a renewable and efficient source, at a critical time when they are rapidly growing and increasing production, and we have used the most advanced technologies to help them meet their energy savings goals.”

SilRay’s second solar project at Sugar Bowl Bakery has an anticipated completion date of late December 2015.
